Four Students of BoE Study Program Completed International MBKM Programs

Rector of Udayana University handed over a Certificate of Appreciations to students who have participated in the 2021 IISMA (Indonesia International Student Mobility Award) and ICT (International Credit Transfer) programs which are managed by the International Office (KUI) of Udayana University. The event was conducted at Bangsa Room, Rectorate Building, on Friday, February 25th 2022.

 

The IISMA dan ICT Programs were attended by 19 students from various faculties in Udayana University, namely Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Medical Science, Faculty of Tourism as well as Faculty of Social and Political Science.

 

Through the event, Udayana University’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. I Nyoman Gde Antara, M.Eng. IPU, expressed his appreciations to students and the International Office (KUI) Team who have successfully managed the programs. He hopes that in the future, the number of students participating this program will increase.

 

IISMA (Indonesia International Student Mobility Award) is an exchange students program provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology that gives opportunity for Indonesian students to study in the top universities in the world for one semester. Athalia Beshorah Aritorang is BoE’s student who participated this program last semester. Through the program, Athalia took four courses that mainly focused in humanities, namely Introduction to Experimental Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, Race, Science and Globalization, and God and Money in University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), USA. Athalia expressed that joining the program has given her many new experiences and benefits.



 

She said, “At UPenn, I was mesmerized by the study culture as well as the class dynamics. I had an amazing time learning about social issues through the American lens and also to discuss them objectively. Not only from academics, I also gained an experience in exchanging minds with people that had different mindset and backgrounds from all over the world. This experience is valuable for me because I was surrounded by intelligent people as well as guided by world class professors and instructors. I also managed to grow international connections through friends and student activities at UPenn and I am still keeping in touch with them, including some of my professors.”



 

Meanwhile, ICT program (International Credit Transfer) which is also held by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, is a credit transfer program that allow students to study online for one semester in overseas university. Three students of Bachelor of English (BoE) Study Program who participated in ICT Program, I Made Teja Kumara, Kadek Ari Sintya Dewi, and Ida Ayu Sita Wahyuningtyas, have successfully completed the program at the University of South Alabama, United States.



 

According to Kadek Ari Sintya Dewi who took courses in American Sign Language, Interpersonal Communication, Grammar for ESL, and American Criminal Law at the University of South Alabama, said that joining ICT is one of the best experiences she ever has. “This is one of the best opportunities I've ever has, meeting new friends virtually, making memories and getting certified which is a huge achievement. I will definitely recommend this program to other Udayana University students,” said Ari.

 

Teja Kumara Sena who took four online courses in University of South Alabama, namely Introduction to Internet Market Writing, Writing Essentials, Writing for ESL, and Grammar for ESL, expressed that joining ICT has given him many benefits and made him learnt how to manage time well. He said, “I get new experience of knowledge, and lots of benefits, where there some of the course that is not offer in my home university department.  I learn how to manage our time well, specifically in managing time for studying the material from home university and host University, then experienced different academic atmosphere at overseas university, and various study materials that enhance my knowledge about”. Teja is also impressed with the LMS provided by University of South Alabama as well as their professional lecturers.

In addition, Sita Wahyuningtyas who participated in the program, said that she got many new perspectives from joining the program, especially from one of the courses she took, namely Introduction to American Sign Language”. She said, “To be able to be comprehensive in learning and speaking professionally, the course technically enriches and enhances creative thinking, better problem-solving skills, greater cognitive flexibility, and better listening skills. It also promotes cultural awareness, literacy, and many other intellectual benefits. I personally felt it when it comes to learning the Deaf Community and learning how to respect the culture.” At the of her statement, she encourages other students of Bachelor of English study program to participate in ICT program in the upcoming semesters.

At the end of the event, the Coordinator of BoE study program, Dr. I Wayan Mulyawan, said that the achievements marked a milestone in BoE’s students’ success in participating in International Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (freedom to learn) activities. It is hoped that these achievements will be able to motivate other students to compete in the International MBKM Programs.
