BoE targets 80% of Students to Graduate on time
Bachelor of English (BoE) study program conducted
an online meeting on Monday, February 14th 2022. The meeting was
attended by 156 students of 2018 academic year. The meeting was led by
the Coordinator of BoE, Dr. I Wayan Mulyawan, S.S., M.Hum and it was
aimed to motivate the students to complete their study on time. BoE has
prepared a strategic plan so that all of its students can go through all
the final stages of education in the undergraduate program. All study
programs in Udayana University have a target of graduates on time as
stated in the Main Performance Indicators (IKU).
In the occasion,
the Coordinator of BoE explained some strategies that the students can
apply in order to be graduated on time. In his presentation, Dr.
Mulyawan emphasized that BoE is ready to help the students
administratively. In addition, some strategies in completing
undergraduate thesis as well as having good communication with
supervisors are needed.
“Your on-time graduation is one of BoE’s
targets. Therefore, I am expecting that at least 80% of this cohort of
students will be graduated on time. It is certain that it is not an easy
work to do and it needs your motivation and determination, especially
in completing your undergraduate thesis. Though you have passed the
proposal examination, do not let your guard down, on the contrary you
have to be more focus in completing your undergraduate thesis”, said Dr.
Mulyawan to the students who attended the meeting.
Communication is the Key of Success
Final
semester students who are in the midst of completing their
undergraduate thesis often feel reluctant in keeping communication with
their supervisors. This often become the main reason of why those
students are left behind. BoE’s Coordinator emphasized that final
semester students need to keep in touch with their supervisors so that
the supervising process can run well.
“Communication is the main
key for students in completing their undergraduate thesis, especially
with the supervisors. Later on, you can make a group consisting of those
who have the same supervisors, make a list of the members, then submit
it to your supervisors. The purpose is to let you supervisors know your
number. So far, many students do not contact his or her supervisors, so
that the supervisors do not know the progress of their students”, said
Dr. Mulyawan to the attendee.
If permitted by the supervisors,
students who have the same supervisors can create a Whatsapp Group so
that communication and monitoring between supervisors and students will
be easier to conduct.
An affirmation on the importance of
maintaining communication with supervisors was expressed by Dr. Seri
Malini, M.Hum. as the representative of the lecturers. Undergraduate
thesis is a joint project of lecturer and student. “I just want to
underline what our Coordinator has explained. Undergraduate thesis is a
joint project between you and your supervisor. In the supervising
process, please pay attention to suggestions given by your supervisors”,
said Dr. Seri Malini.
Dr. Seri Malini also showed the results of
the monitoring and evaluation that had been carried out on students who
are preparing their undergraduate thesis. Various obstacles were faced
by the students. The results of the monitoring and evaluation shows that
the main factor that is needed by students to complete their
undergraduate thesis is nothing but the student’s motivation and
determination.
The meeting was continued with an explanation
regarding undergraduate thesis administration process by staff of the
academic affairs, Mr. I Komang Juniarta, S.T. He explained the
administrative steps in details, starts from completing undergraduate
thesis administrations to graduation, all steps that must be undergone
by students. The discussion session between the students and BoE’s
coordinator concluded the meeting.
